And mumflavors is my little corner of the internet!
I launched mumflavors back in 2015 while I was still teaching kindergarten in Portland, OR. One rainy afternoon I baked a banana‑bread loaf for my class and posted the recipe on a spare WordPress blog. The post got 1,200 views in a week, and I realized I loved sharing simple, family‑friendly dishes as much as I loved cooking them. From that first crumb‑covered photo, I kept adding recipes whenever I could find a quiet moment between lesson plans.
Fast‑forward to today, mumflavors reaches about 45 000 unique visitors each month and has a newsletter community of 12 000 hungry readers. In 2021 I released a free “30‑Minute Meal Planner” e‑book that was downloaded 4 500 times, and in 2023 the site was named “Best Community Food Blog” by the Asheville Food Writers Guild. I’ve also started a quarterly “Seasonal Sweet” series that now lives on a dedicated YouTube channel with 8 200 subscribers. The growth feels surreal, but I still write every post by hand and test each recipe twice before it goes live.
I live in Asheville, NC with my husband Mark and our two energetic kids, Lily (7) and Sam (4). My favorite things are a steaming mug of coffee on a Sunday morning, hiking the Blue Ridge trails when the leaves turn, and making fresh pasta with my kids in the kitchen. When I’m not whisking batter or answering comments, you’ll probably find me curled up with a mystery novel or planning our next family camping trip.
